Title:
Spring Roo Quickstart
Abstract:
Spring Roo is the latest, and in my opinion most interesting, product to come from SpringSource. Spring Roo is a rapid application development tool. Think AppFuse meets Grails and mix in some Maven and built-in testing tools.
This talk will be an introduction to Spring Roo. You’ll leave knowing what Roo is, how to use it, and where to go to learn more.

From xml bean declarations to annotations
Abstract:
This talk will focus on taking your application’s bean configuration from an all xml style to an annotation-based approach needing minimal xml (think a few lines).
The talk will be based on the book, Spring Recipes: A Problem-Solution Approach (Books for Professionals by Professionals). This is the same book Spring Dallas Users Group was working through earlier this year. So you can take a look at chapter 3 if you want to take a look at the material before the meeting.
We will be using a hands-on approach so bring your laptop pre-loaded with the SpringSource Tool Suite (a free, open-source product) or Eclipse with the Spring IDE plugin.

Title:
Using Web Service Frameworks in a Spring Application
Abstract:
With SOA’s rise to prominence in the enterprise scene, most new applications being developed today need to deal with web service-based integrations. Whether your application is a service provider or a consumer, a solid strategy for handling web services is an integral part of its architecture. Fortunately, there are a number of open source frameworks available that can free developers from much of the complexity of implementing SOAP-based web services. In this session, I will introduce several leading frameworks including Apache Axis2, Apache CXF, Sun/Metro Web Services and Spring Web Services. I will compare and contrast each framework and examine their built-in support for Spring. Then we’ll build a real-world example, exposing SOAP web services from an existing Spring application.
