About

The Spring Dallas User Group was founded by Erik Weibust (@erikweibust) and Andy Hoffman in 2006.

Erik and Andy had been leading a Java EE user group, working through how to effectively use EJBs, Servlets, JSP, etc. They first heard of the Spring Framework at JavaMUG in 2004 and the 2004/2005 NFJS stops. When Erik had the opportunity to attend the inaugural SpringOne (then known as The Spring Experience) in December 2005 he was sold on the benefits of Spring. Erik easily sold Andy on the idea and one month later the Spring Dallas User Group was formed. The SDUG held their  first meeting on January 6, 2006 with an introduction to Spring by Craig Walls.

Brian Hurley (@m7cs) took over the group from Erik Weibust and Andy Hoffman in 2009 and led the group for 4 years. In 2012 Bruce Schesvold joined to help maintain the group and co-lead as necessary. September 2012 Josh Hamit (@josh_hamit) and Steve Iboubi stepped in to help Bruce Schesvold and together are currently leading the group.

The Spring Dallas User Group was formed to promote and educate the Dallas – Ft. Worth community on the Spring Framework (and all it’s sub-projects) which are supported and maintained by SpringSource.  The SDUG holds regular meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm in the offices of Improving Enterprises. If you have any questions about the group you can contact Brian Hurley at brhurley -at- gmail or join the Spring Dallas User Group discussion list and post any questions there.

Regards,

Brian Hurley
